Happy Holi!!
Looking for unity and tolerance in color
Today is not just another day and I don’t really wanna scream out the reasons but I just had a few thoughts about my fellow humans. I had one memorable night the other day, don’t get me wrong, but it was this big discussion trying to clear misconceptions that many people have about my country, INDIA. We are as you all know a developing nation trying to deal with enormous burdens on our infrastructure and with some of the most basic problems imaginable. We are and you may disagree with me on this one, a country that holds things like regionalism, communalism and many times things like casteism dear to our heart whether we openly admit it or not.
But needless to say we all take great pride in the good things that our country has given to us and our families. So which country does not have problems, where have you seen the perfect society? I asked my American friend. But myths abound, ignorance prevails and second hand notions about an India that I do not know exist.
Today on a cold windy Birmingham evening, thousands of miles away from my home I am alone in a small room all by myself with all these thoughts and feelings, I miss my home, filthy as it may be, noisy, corrupt, cold, materialistic and so very unconcerned, it is MY country and I feel for it. Holi to me is interesting because in the colors, I see the beauty of diversity in food, language, religion etc. Let these colors bring out the kindness in our hearts, lets be proud of who we are and be happy for what we have.
