What we once Dreamt

We have now what we once thought was a dream,

Yet I am forever bound by hope and desire, it seems.

Longing to fill what the emptiness takes away,

Each day an effort for happiness in my heart to stay.

This concrete city is full of people, yet absent of soul.

Every cross street, a winding road;

Restaurants, stores, and taxis on my stroll.

Lifeless faces, eyes fixed upon their phones—

Won’t you smile at me and simply say, “Hello?”

The soundtrack of this city

Buried beneath the noise of shouting fellows

Someday I will escape into a quiet yonder,

What did I do here?

And why—

I will always wonder.
